Thien Vivien ; SPM 2004

Saw her growing up from 13 and now I believe she's ready to storm the world. A superb achiever in all aspects from academics to co-curricular activities, Vivien fights hard. She's also a recipient of one of the top SPM award and had lunch with the then Prime Minister. Today, she has done many proud being a Cambridge Law graduate and a Harvard Masters holder. She was called to the American bar in January this year.



I remember her being the 'Malam Bakat Seafield' Mc and took the job with pride and care. She's everywhere from being a debater to a recipient of the coveted 'Sony Science' Awards. Her enthusiasm and drive has seen her through the many challenges she faces along her life's journey.
Today, she's at it again. She's in her final bar call and serving in one of the top 5 Law firms in London. She's also a co-writer of a book together with her professor; a book I believe that would give valuable information.
On a visit to school last month, she told me that the thing that gives her qualm about working overseas is her missing family members and home. Even a short trip of two weeks was essential as it meets her crave for home. Her good friend, Kavitha is going to finish her medical studies in London and she will be attending her convocation soon. Both of them are great pals from secondary school days till today. Old friends die hard; they stick to you under all circumstances and it's never the same with friends you meet in tertiary institutions.

Yes, Vivien is another product from the school of future leaders.
"When are you getting married?" She gave me a smile.

Lee Sheng Wang SPM 2007 ; I believe.

When his devoted mama first consulted me on his strength for a career; I quickly suggested Advertising. Sheng Wang has been a keen learner of filming and photography way before he left the gates of school. Even in his secondary school years, he has been shortlisted by RTM for his short stories and was given special mention and awards for his initiative and achievement.





Today, Sheng Wang has gone a long way. He established a strong reputation in his tertiary years in UTAR and has since been invited back to the University grounds for talks and encouragement among youths and under graduates. He is a trend setter in his own right creating a niche in filming. His mama and papa are behind him in whatever tasks appointed and undertaken both locally and internationally.
I believe he has been to the Philippines for ASEAN ROK workshops and even to London to achieve a Commonwealth award for his work.





He is here seen with super star Jackie Chan; a connection with his field of expertise. One would not be surprised that he may just end up being a big time director one day and prove to be a competitor to world renown directors. I see Sheng Wang grow from a young innocent lad to a matured, interesting youth. The future is bright for him and the stars are his to grasp.
All thanks to a supportive set of parents and to his Alma mater which gave him the platform to be what he is today.
He is indeed a star from the school of future leaders and it would not be long before his Alma mater invites him home to speak to the present cohort.

Well done, Sheng Wang... more to see and come; for sure.

It's On !

A special heartfelt thanks to everyone who took up the challenge to get the Alumni going.
Today we can proudly present our very own PASS ( Persatuan Alumni SMK Seafield); a society that has long been etched in our spirit to get it going.
With this, we will have to take the next challenge of holding another AGM and hopefully lead to the formation of a full-fledged society.




The date of the next appointment will soon be decided by the pro-tem committee headed by Wong Ryui Bynn, Danial Zian, Emily Chan, Tay Chiet Chun, Zach Siow, Dhaneesh Kumar and Fong Chui Yeng. A special mention be made for Justin Wong who is the one who spearheaded the initiative but could not be absorbed into the committee because he is still a 'baby' ; under 18.

The AGM will determine who the next President and the commitee members will be. They will then lead this maiden effort to make good their tie with their alma mater; thereby taking it to the next level of maturity.

So, be on the look out through the PASS fb for latest updates, news , and steps taken. We are leading one another; again to be mentioned as a maiden effort and hopefully it will achieve its noble aims and desires.

In Our Record.

Today we saw old familiar faces; but with great transformation.

The girls are back to see us and to tell us of their success stories.

That's Andrea . She 's back to tell us that she will love to create a production on sports; and what better time than during our annual sports day next week ! Yes Andrea is with 8TV and is a producer for shows; one of which is hosted by one of our local girls too; Megan. Andrea will be back with Megan next week to choreograph the sports event. She told me that she needed to produce a sports show and Seafield, her Alma mater is the best choice!



Look at this pretty lass. I remember her doing her prefectorial duties so faithfully each day and today she is a medical doctor serving in Singapore. She visits us occasionally as she has a special attachment to her Alma mater for...




... she is non other than Madam Looi ; the Chemistry jargon's daughter. Yes, Dr. Wai Yen has grown in all aspects; inter and intra. Glad to see mother and child in harmony. Mum tells me that her daughter will most likely settle in Singapore. Madam Looi is no ordinary mama as all her off springs; 2 boys and a girl are not only Seafieldians but medical personnel ! The Chinese will say "chiak boey liow !" She is very fortunate to have sensible children.

Seafield gave them the basic knowledge and skills of development.

May they continue to flourish in whatever fields they are in.

Glad to have you all home, girls.

Driving home I wonder what I am going to do when I retire...no more opportunity to see them... but oh yes there is the alumni group in fb...still got chance man !

Nur Hafizah Mohd Razali, a demure and lovable character has created waves in the Culinary arena !

I last met her at a colleague's daughter's wedding in December together with her mother, an ex-colleague and her brother, Ali. Both siblings went through their secondary days in Seafield and I was a little surprised that the younger sibling is making waves. Brother Ali too is doing fine so I was told.

Hafizah I remembered, had a fall just before her SPM and had to be wheeled into the exam room each day. Best remembered as a polite and unassuming character, she performed her prefectorial duties faithfully. Here I do emphasise that though you may not be loud in school, you still can create a niche in life. Hafizah is a marketeer; she brought along gifts of "Try Masak" and invited us to visit her site and give her support.

But the NST a couple of weeks ago had a feature story about her. Grown into a confident young lady I was indeed pleasantly surprised to read about her in the papers ; a protege of the school of future leaders.

A Night Of Stars

She mailed and informed me of the great performance on that night. She shared her heart's joy and I could feel the pride she derived from her hard effort and creativity. She has always been like this way back in her school days.

Her passion to see a project to fruition including the many band performances she did for the percussion band of the school was a hall mark of great work for a girl of mere 16-17 years. The band teacher Madam Sophia Law sang praises for her dedication, commitment and exemplary sacrifices for a cause so good...to raise funds for the band.

What you learn and acquire in a humble school will be extended to other aspects of tertiary education. With her exposure to impressive evenings held in school, Sher Hann took the leap to be the director for a musical evening; ISABELLA in the University of Reading last week.

In her school days, she will lead like this on special functions in school ; day and night she will lead ; so she became used to gruesome training. A training which will earn her the tenacity for greater passions later.

On Carnival days, she would lead the band to perform and 'sing for their supper' and ask the PTA to buy more instruments.

Then on Sports Days and outdoor competitions, she would pursue with determination even at the cost of her milky skin turning a shade darker; aha what is colour to her skin compared to the sense of achievement she acquired.

We 'three kings of orient bring...' yes she loves that instrument...

Now you know why she's blowing that...so typical of her. Whatever you may say; her Alma mater did her good by providing opportunities for her to be trained up. Look down not on all the extra-curricular activities in school for they are the stepping stones for all later achievements in life.




Sara told me that Sher Hann has been going through immense tension and pressure in preparation for the musical evening. But not to worry, she has the grit for it; well proven.

In her mail, she told me that Sara did her part in making the night come true too. I looked and looked at photos and finally I found her there...in the Dikir Barat team ! Yea, at least she helped her comrade. Proud of you too...

A Teacher Recalls...

My favourite evening practice is to walk on that machine ; not really out of love but more so to keep some fats away. Then I will automatically switch on the box and watch whatever I can gobble from the idiot box. So I pick up gossips and tear-jerks from Media Corp of Singapore and wonder at the way Singaporean stars perform. Some can really act well especially the ones who always have evil plans up their sleeves and how they can actually pull me to the screen the next day to see the sequel slots. Maybe someday I will talk about these stars.

But today, I must confess that a familiar face more often than not appear in advertisements for NTV7 and at 8 in the evenings reading the Mandarin news. I have this sense of pride whenever I see her broadcast news ; because she is an ex-seafieldian. I remember...she used to be the super singer and star of our very own Bakat Seafield.

Back in the late 90s when we staged vocal competitions we gave our students opportunities to belt out their best and it was then that stardom came along their way...

Ms Tiang Kah Chee

In school she was known as the polite girl with perfect manners and spoke Mandarin half the time with Madam Sophia Lau whom I believe is still in contact with her. Though not always a high profile figure, she shone nevertheless during vocal competitions. A soprano, she can hit high pitches and it was a pleasure hearing her sing old Mandarin hits with pitches that hit the roof.
She must have enrolled in a communication degree and later got attached to NTV7. From my observation she not only reads news but appears in local NTV7 singing productions and acting too. Hmm not bad; not bad. I am glad she went far enough to be noticed by others. Also, I see the confidence established out of the vocation she is in.

I have not been in personal contact with her but I observe her from afar and I consider her a leader in her own way.

Glad she is doing fine as she happily sings her lungs out for another Chinese New Year Special Program called 'kwai ler 178" (Happy 178?)

To be there or there already?

Over breafast yesterday, the Principal told me her heart's desire ; to establish the panaroma of the school an inch further. She reiterated that we should profess it as the 'School of Future Leaders' and to make it work.

Yes, the school of future leaders and for future leaders.

Walking round the premises of the school, my memory stretched back to as far as it could hold and I wondered at all the students who have left us over the decade. Where are they? How can I tell of their stories? How many will tell me their stories? Are some of them aspiring to be towering figures in the country?

For the sake of history, I will try to find out ... as much as it permits.

So, each time I talk about some stories related to them it will be entitled ;

School of Future Leaders.

Incidentally, one figure walked in yesterday and said 'hi'.

As related some time ago, I remember this guy as someone different in class. He dreamt to be a cheer leader and a dancer. His essay told me of it. To make it a reality, he became a figure to behold in the co-curriculum field. So it is true to equate some aspiration and success with active participation in school. He gathered his croonies and bull- dozed through the cheer panel of judges because he formed the first all male team for the 'pom-pom' world and emerged the first ever champion team for the nation...boys don't go pom-pom but they did it and caught the nation's attention.

Then he successfully completed his STPM and enrolled himself in a 'dance degree' emerging again as the best student of his cohort from Universiti Malaya. He knew what he wanted. So what if he had been in the pure science stream in his school career ? He never forgo his dream. He shared that his mum allowed him a full say in what he wanted to do and laughed when he related how many friends' parents forbade them to enroll in such a 'dance degree'. So some of them became engineers, accountants and... still wanted to dance. So they join hands with him and dance, dance, dance even after their professional degrees.They don't want to be in their fields they graduated from. They only wanted to dance !

Yes, it's Chee Wei. He dropped by to say hello to his 'ibu' ; that close to her his heart is. So the Principal confirmed again - school of future leaders.

Chee Wei told me he has never worked for any boss before because he aspires to be the boss himself. In his words...I do not wait for opportunity to come my way; I create my own opportunity. I'm not used to being led cause Seafield trained me to lead... Wow, he sure knows how to 'bodek'...compliment; something up his sleeve? Trying to get business?
Today he is the boss of 'Cheer Aspirations' and provides training services to those who need them. He also does retailing in sports equipment and evrything related to cheer business. He employs many Seafieldians and is still the leader wherever he goes. He is bold and the sky is the limit. He told me he is single but not available. What does that mean?

We will be seeing more of him ... official coach of "The Vulcanz"; the very team he formed in his school days.
