They call me cikgu...
On evenings when I walk around the vicinity of USJ5, I will usually come across a playing court where a group of students will gather to play futsal, football, volleyball and so on. They are a bunch of physical kids full of vigour ready to sweat and vent out their energy... healthy activities.
The USJ5 playground will be a haunt where the boys ; surprisingly I see no girls - make and strengthen friendship and establish camaraderie that will be kept for memories .
Though I must confess I know not all of them except for Afiq, Faisal, Nabil, - they are a loving lot because they will unashamedly shout across the grounds and call me "cikgu".
I receive their sincere calling with much nostalgia and appreciation as it warms my heart. I like the way they acknowlege me (I must be getting really old; always wanting to be remembered) as it means they have understood respect for the teacher. They want to be associated with the school and be a part of the organisation be it within or outside the gates of the four walls. I simply love this attitude. But most of all, their call - cikgu - makes all the getting up in the wee hours of the morning for the last 29 years worthy and every sacrifice meaningful for cikgu.
Cikgu hopes the boys will grow into fine young men, well-mannered and always ready to be of use to the community around them and lead lives worth emulated by others.
Fine young boys...katanya cikgu.
