No Hand Phones

No hand phones in school please.

All schools have received the directive not to allow students to use hand phones in school be it during class time or outside the classroom ; not even during activity time.
Many have lamented on the directive but let's look at the wisdom behind such a move.

The presence of hand phones could lead to the following :
  • theft
  • cheating during examinations
  • contacting people for wrong reasons during school hours
  • loss of concentration in class
  • ordering food against regulation
  • taking insidious pictures
  • recording wrong information
  • root of quarrels and misunderstandings

All other reasons for the advantages of the hand phone cannot undo the harm it brings. Don't you agree?

Very true. As an ex-seafielden and now studying in college, I feel that it is correct NOT to bring handphones to school, unless it is really needed to be used after school.
In such situations, would keeping our handphones to the teachers be advisable? :)
So that students are able to use it AFTER school for any activities? :)
Thanks.

Hi...yea, often times one becomes wiser after leaving the gates of the school. The ills of the handphones are just not justifiable for its use in school. Of course the school will consider certain cases if we need to keep the phones for emergency cases. Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Pik Yen, if you need to bring those items for specific purposes, just let the discipline board know with a written letter. I am sure we can accomodate for good reasons.

I live an hour away from school and I take the public transport home everyday. Everyday I would reach at different destinations because I take whatever bus that reaches first. And everyday I reach home at different times.

Can you imagine a student in my situation without a handphone? How inconvenient it would be for me.

BTW. I'm already 19 so it's not that dangerous for me to take public transport home.

IMO, the student is to be blamed for not taking care of his/her phone if it gets stolen. teachers can do spot checks before examinations? Isn't using the phone to cheat way more obvious than students scribbling notes onto tables beforehand? imo, students should be allowed to bring handphones to school but switch it off during classes. taking insidious pictures...they can do it anywhere outside school if they want to. and not everyone is low like that!

anyway, this is just my opinion. i know some people use it for the wrong reasons..but there are also others who depends their lives on their handphones..e.g. to contact their parents..

Hi Cera
Thank you for voicing your grouses and opinions. I shall try and comvince you further if it helps :
1. I believe being 19, you must be in form 6. I am just wondering how come you are in a school that is one hour away from home. As far as I know, students will be allocated schools as close to their homes as possible. So, there must be a reason I don't know. Anyway, the point is if you are near home, there won't be the inconvenience of public transport and safety & of course the need for a handphone.
2.It is good if students are responsible for their own hp but many a time they report the loss and expects the school to intervene and worst still if parents come in to demand for the school to take action. It has happened so many times and really the school is turned into a circus ground when we go a hunting for the lost hp
3.It is ideal for spot checks b4 a test starts to check on hp but really, tell me is it practical? You know the teachers will be running for time to set the class ready to start the paper and there may not be enough time. Also when there is intention to smuggle the hp they w kept in places not normally searched in the body.
4. Yes the hp is not the only way to cheat but if we can help it why not prevent it?
5.When I mean insidious images, I mean harmful images of students in school which many be detrimental to their reputation and why such a hold over them?
6. Try the public phone to contact parents and at the worst come see me for help.
All in all, we are also complying to directives and why not try out a system which was held good in the yesteryears ? Don't fret, you will get used to the system and behind every seemingly dark cloud, there is a silver lining. Take heart and cheer up. See me if you need help, k?
