Two Left Feet

Another milestone in the annals of Seafield as teachers got together for a line dance last Thursday. Line dancing has long been known for its many versatilities. You join for
  • health reasons (lose weight...)
  • fun and merriment
  • hobby
  • trend
  • mental quickening
  • add others

It was refreshing to walk into the school hall to hear Linda Ronstadt's melodious voice ...It's so easy to fall in love, it's so easy to fall in love...and the sporting instructor tapping away her feet harmoniously in tandem with the music.

(This lady on stage is more than half a century old and I swear she puts many to shame with her zest for dance and her outlook in trendy matters)

Better still, to witness the teachers both ladies and gentlemen swaying to and fro displaying their teachability and willingness to make a go at the event. Organising the dance was indeed with much qualm in the beginning as we were not sure if we were up to it. But then just as the saying goes no venture no gain so we thought it was good that we add some colours into the teaching profession and let our hair down occasionally.

(Men and women ready to make a go and stay in tune)

Well, to our delight we discovered that some were outstanding and in tune . But of course there were some with 2 left feet and swayed according to their own style and momentum. But who really cares? It was not so much being in tandem with the steps; it was the getting together, laughing together and of course eating together on a free lunch. A break from the norm. There were loads of mistakes, laughter and fun. The teachers spontaneously shook, tapped, swayed, squealed and were fancy-free on the dance floor. What cheer they had!

(The 2 left 'footers' were not afraid to make mistakes...it was a learning process)

The next day I could not help but spoke personally to some of them and these were some of the responses:

This Maths jargon so well-loved by many whispered ; "guah chin chai tiow chui tio la , asa wu yeoh chui see liow" - meaning I just danced according to my own music ... she told me her body aches were killing.

Behold, this one. She is not only a champion for Chemistry; she is also one on the dance floor. After this session she vows to start a class for the staff and campaigns for a weekly class. And...the event is on. Kudos! Champion everywhere! When there is a will there is a way!

The lady in pink " eh, sukanya. Tapi badan sakit la...boleh, boleh lain kali buat lagi "- she condones the occasion and asks for more in the future.

The Dancing Queen. She oozes out energy, style and optimism. She told me they swayed to the tune of Michael Jackson's ...Beat it...Beat it...a greater feat but nevertheless achieved.

So you see. We had a memorable day and one which will spur to many more. It is true, we are championing for a good cause and soon , very soon the Dancing Class will be on .

Come one , come all.
