Sweet Victories

Blood, sweat and tears but it was all worth it.

The up and coming new kid in town has proven her tenacity in their latest conquests.

Placed strategically at the entrance of the office was this mock cheque of RM2k to tell the school of her choir's victory in the Patriotic Songs' Competition held last week which gave the team the mandate to represent the state in her State Flag Hoisting Opening Ceremony last Saturday in the Arena of Sports in CyberJaya.

Last Saturday saw the choir diligently belting out some patriotic songs to commemorate the Patriotic Month of the year.

The national flag was flown by the young and old, rich and poor in patriotic participation.

Our boys and girls tucked in their best costumes and under the leadership of Chew Yee Fun with no complaints sang their best under the hot, scorching sun. It was a mandatory call but one which was answered with respect and honour...to sing for the state celebration...only one team was awarded the opportunity.

Even as I sat and watched them perform, it evoked a real, deep sense of pride...especially proud that the members were humble, diligent, obedient and sweated it out in the name of their of Alma mater. While some of their friends may be lazing at home watching the box or playing the computer or even strolling around air-conditioned malls, they fought and sang in joy and true spirit.

On the very next day, they rose up to the occasion again ; this time fighting tooth and nail for a place in another patriotic song competition in Subang Parade.
Voicing her concerns , the teacher-in charge said that they had strong opponents for the day and humbly confessed that the team may not make it to the top after a hectic time the day before. But at that very instant she added, "But, Puan Chong, never mind la... we just try our best. Somehow, hopefully in their simplicity, their aura will touch the judges and audience."

I heard another team was singing without the microphone...what about us? I was told we need the help of it for volume...Oh, it's alright.

But sometimes, maybe it's perfect timing or maybe it's just mere coincidence that we saw the Pibg chief with his wife walking in to join the fun. On top of that, he called his cronies and soon the floor was graced by the Pibg battalion... a welcoming sight.

So they sang... "5 Prinsip Ruku Negara" ...

Lima prinsip Rukun Negara
Harus menjadi cara hidup kita
Bukan sekadar Ikrar sahaja
Sekali sekala dibaca semata...

...and caught the hearts of the audience with their harmony, melody and timely movements. It was a refreshing difference from the others with their dress code and trendy, quickening tempo ... paid RM200.00 for the score ; I was told. But a well-paid one.

Yee Fun's body movements will cause you to want to sing along. She's alert, concise and in tune. She's such an asset to the team !

See the wide-eyed girl? She's a dancer, singer, choreographer, conductor, an athlete on the field and a straight A scorer in major exams. She's a gem and a blessing to many around her... and she is one great conductor...and leads the team to victory after victory... twice in a week.

So the team again became the favourite and stole the show. When 2 sets of judges on 2 different competitions say you are the winner... you are the winner. No doubt this time.

The 2 dedicated teachers and a mother; Madam Yvonne take care of the team with much gentle care and love. I observed how the teachers treated the children..giving them food and drinks making sure they were well taken care of and their needs met.In an environment when the teachers handle them so well, they can only come out well. Kudos, teachers.

Expressions of unbelief, joy and relief. They deserved to be the champion of the day.

The Champion team is now ready to storm another challenge...this time to represent Selangor in the National Patriotic Song Competition in Pahang ; next month.

We can only echo our best wishes.
