Gap (1)

The Generation Gap
Yes, no one can deny about this gap. It comes in many forms and shapes...values, beliefs, practices, habits, thoughts and many, many more.
Last weekend, an article in The Star caught my attention.

Breakdance
It is popular amongst the younger breed. As a teacher, the advantage is you learn to accept youthful gestures and mannerisms in a more open manner. You are more tolerant and in the name of creativity do not mind expressive manisfestations. You have to decipher the expression as positive as possible so as not to break the spirit and kill the child.
But breakdance.

They roll on the floor, oblivious of its filthy conditions and they stand on their heads on the floor not bothered at the dangerous posture. They don't seem to mind breaking any part of the body and they squirm like snakes.
The picture brought me to the words of an old friend, Chee Meng who happens to be in my home cell group where we meet each friday evening to learn about the ways of God. This friend had this to say :
I just don't understand why youngsters need to go down on the floor to dirty themselves and prance around like that? What kind of a dance is that? You call that creativity? A dance? Aya, why the need to roll and roll like that? I just don't understand la. They turn clean clothes into dirty ones instantly ! Not to mention the germs and dirt.
Sigh...many things indeed we the older generation cannot fathom.
But if you have to break a dance to show creativity, break la.
