Till Death Do Us Part

The Marriage Vow
...I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad , and in joy as well as in sorrow...

...so every night for the last two years Mr. Lee Kuan Yew will talk to her as she kept awake for him. He would tell her the events of the day and read her favourite poems ; she must have looked forward to those moments.

...I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in your goals, to honour and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live...

...so Madam Kwa Geok Choo, a product of Methodist Girls' School provided the strong arm in partnership at work and at home; to be his equal sharing his same interests and passion. She was the stoic behind major decisions and an unspoken tower of strength for the man behind Singapore.

Mr. Lee said he needed someone his equal, not someone who was not really grown up and needed looking after and yet when his wife was down and out he took great loving effort to look after her.

Theirs has been a love story so much talked about among us in school for the last few days as we consider their long standing marriage of 63 years and how their exemplary lives have given birth to a nation that is the envy of many. Their sacrifice and passion for what they live for and believe in is a true legacy yet to be compared to any around the region.

They cause us to reflect upon ourselves.

To Singapore and her people, our condolences and like her people, we also are with you,
Mr. Lee Kuan Yew...hang on.

A message I gave Grace this morning : So sad for Mr. Lee Kuan Yew la.
Grace : Yeah, quite sad she passed away.

Hi Joey,

Mum had to follow someone first in order to allow others to follow her, so she's following your blog now :)
