My Buddies

Meet My Friends

Once on an evening someone suggested that we go out as a group for a weekend trip to an island . So we decided to seize the opportunity offered by Berjaya Air to Koh Samui. I have heard about but not seen the place. I reckon it should be similar to Bali and Phuket and dragged daddy along.
There were some qualms though the night before the departure. I must confess that there were some fears that we might meet the infamous floods. Newspaper reports related about our very own Northern States being inundated with floodwaters and I wondered if it was a wise move to go.

Anyway, this longed for getaway was planned months ago and it would a shame if we did not go. When it was time to board the plane, I wondered at its size. I have never been in a plane so small; for 48 passengers only. Like a bus ride. Beraya Air however wasn't too bad after all for it brought us there and home safely. Other airlines fly there too and you can guess it... now everybody can fly.

Daddy is the real thorn among the roses... my lady buddies. Guess who are already grandmothers?

The most loving couple ; Chee Meng and Jane. Chee Meng cannot live without Jane for I heard him telling the wife " Lou Por, nay hmm hou ta hmm kin woh" ( Oh dear wife you must not lose yourself ) and so she tags closely beside him.

Oh this couple always have matters up their sleeves. Sheila and Harrres are very sporty and organise great parties all the time ! Sheila was appointed the official photographer and lugged her SLR where ever she went just like Derlyn.

Having known them for about 20 years, Eddie and Kwai Lin are really "lou fu, lou chai" (old loving couple). Their unuttered care and concern for each other are seen in many loving gestures and are exemplary parents to their sons.

Kwai Lin has made Melbourne her second home as she flies there every other month to be with her children. A most understanding mother, mother-in-law and wife; she makes a great companion to many around her. Oh. I like her tastes.

One look at her and you can guess her vocation. Esther is an easy going and likeable character. She cares for many and her heart is too big for her body to carry at times. She can walk miles for any good cause and is always walking the extra mile for someone all the time.

We are also another couple in the group. They notice that dad allows me to do almost anything on my own and he doesn't question me. That is because he knows I am sensible and I appreciate him for his silent, unintruding manners. Dad is my hero.

Jennifer is wife to Michael Lee. If there is any more careful character around; she is the one. Being in the insurance line, she is so very, very, very careful in whatever she does. Her trained eyes have been an excellent guide in her buying habits; not even for a cent would she spare for a product not worth her assessment. But she is very kind.

Hubby to Jennifer, Michael is the leader of the pack. He heads our home fellowship and is there when you need him. Both their sons are based in Australia.

This is a wise lady. She cooks perfect dishes; she being a domestic science specialist once. She gives good encouragement and advice to us. She takes pain to show her concern and loves her children tremendoulsy. They are also away from her. She is our "tai kar jie"...big sister.

You see. Our group suffers from the empty nest syndrome. In fact, at this very moment, none of our children are around with the families represented except for Chee Meng whose son is attached to a local accounting firm. We can be lonely at times and so when lonely hearts get together, we talk about almost anything under the sun.

So, every Friday we would gather around a member's home and talk about matters of God and trash out our differences, beliefs and convictions. But all in all, we are grateful to God for friends who can come together to worship and pray and seek His ways for days ahead. We come in one spirit to understand the teachings of God and try our best to do things pleasing in His sight.

Thank You Lord for friends.

Your comment about my parents really cracked me up, Aunty Ik Poh - Especially the part about my mom lugging her SLR around. Enjoyed reading both your entries on Koh Samui :) Seems like I was there myself!
ps: Is everyone really 'suffering' from the empty nest syndrome? ;)
