New Stars ; Old Stars

Oh what a day ...

Dear God, please don't let the rain fall; give us a good day we pray.

Yes it's the 16th annual sports day. Amirul and Eugenia are the captains of the day !

Yellow House, Red House., Purple House...on the march we go.

The best uniform group ; the Scout movement.

That's self defence; the Silat group.

Taekwondo says we are just as good...

But the band of the school has a new set of uniform to show off...

Yes...go, go, go.

The lovely cheerleaders cheered us up; the anticipating crowd roared at their entrance. Now I am beginning to suspect that they are here for them; not the sports...

That's our old star; now the cheer coach of the school. He is an example to emulate. Sensible and focus in his perception of matters in life. When I need to read the minds of youths, I ask for his help at times. What? Why? He gives me new insight.

Look at another old star. Why is everyone back today? She's known to the public as Megan; I call her You Mei.

For old times' sake; Megan on my left and Andrea on my right...what do you think they are up to?

Have you not be eating? Turning anorexic... But teacher; I am not.

This young lass of Sara's batch is working hard for 8 TV; she's here for a sports production. Her Alma mater is of course her first choice ! The show will be screened at midnight on a date to be set !

What a great show...you think they ran for them? Pose only.

Oh; here's another old star; Dr. Benjamin Lee. He could not tear himself away from the St.John team; old faithful.

This one is the real star, Eugenia swept the ladies' runs ; 1oom, 2oom, 1x400m and every run is a golden run.

I have met another real star; Julian Lee. How is it that I have never met him before on the field? Where was he last year? His dad told me that he recovered from an old injury; trained really hard and made great runs today ! All were golden runs !

So, quite naturally Eugenia is the sports woman of the year. Congratulations .

Oh yes! Julian is the sports man of the year. Well done and good job!

Like all dear fathers, he followed the son everywhere, took photos and stood by him all the way. Father and son relationship is steadfast and there is so much support and rapport. Julian, remember to love daddy as he loves you.

So another photo for the album. Julian and Eugenia ; great sports people.

But I am betting on this new star; an up and coming star for the next season... Ms Li Zi Xuen. She has the built; light and good shape for tracks.

She will be the next star after Eugenia and Eunice.

My hunch tells me so.

The day started with a threatening sky but ended bright and hot. Yellow House emerged the champion team. Congratulations and we meet again next year.

A tiring day and we are glad that it's a long weekend.

Another event out of the school calendar.

It's On !

A special heartfelt thanks to everyone who took up the challenge to get the Alumni going.
Today we can proudly present our very own PASS ( Persatuan Alumni SMK Seafield); a society that has long been etched in our spirit to get it going.
With this, we will have to take the next challenge of holding another AGM and hopefully lead to the formation of a full-fledged society.

The date of the next appointment will soon be decided by the pro-tem committee headed by Wong Ryui Bynn, Danial Zian, Emily Chan, Tay Chiet Chun, Zach Siow, Dhaneesh Kumar and Fong Chui Yeng. A special mention be made for Justin Wong who is the one who spearheaded the initiative but could not be absorbed into the committee because he is still a 'baby' ; under 18.

The AGM will determine who the next President and the commitee members will be. They will then lead this maiden effort to make good their tie with their alma mater; thereby taking it to the next level of maturity.

So, be on the look out through the PASS fb for latest updates, news , and steps taken. We are leading one another; again to be mentioned as a maiden effort and hopefully it will achieve its noble aims and desires.

Congratulations; once again to all concerted effort.

A Piece of Art

Lovely Backdrop

Do you not think so?

They say a picture speaks a thousand words; sometimes less is more.

So I speak no more.

You be the judge.

A special thanks to versatile teachers who are willing to walk the extra mile for a job well done.
Thank you Puan Maziha.

The Old Feeling

Sharing from the heart

Dad woke up very early last Sunday and insisted on a walk to his favourite spot in town. The idyllic ethos of Muar is a good getaway from the busy city and it is during such moments that matters of the heart are best shared.

Even from his school days, this has been the spot where he would spend hours as an angler hoping for a catch for dinner. He told me that the town by the seaside and close to nature is in tandem with his heart's desire to retire in. The next thought quickly came in : "What about the children?" They would not like to stay here. Dad retorted and said "Do you expect them to stay with us?" Yea. I forgot they are not ours to hold and cherish forever. Have I not realised that this is reality? I forgot they are already adults. But dad... we must be around for them whenever they need us; so we must be close and near enough and yet not exactly with them? How far can we shield them?

Then dad spotted these fishes. He told me that he just learnt their name through a documentary in National Geographic a couple of days ago...the Archer fish. Why archer? So unique. He told me that it is because of the way they catch their prey. Whenever a possible prey is within reach, the fish would spurt out water from its mouth as if to target its victim by paralysing them. Believe it or not we saw it happening before our eyes ! We saw the spurt of water but it was a futile effort as it could not catch its prey. Nevertheless, I marvel again at the way God has created them and given them a way to fend for themselves. Every creature created has a defence mechanism which will see them through life. I must remember that.

In the middle of the river, we saw this barge. Dad very convincingly told me that it is a sand barge. How did he know? He told me that when he was building the Santubong bridge connecting Damai Beach to the mainland in Sarawak, he used to stand on top of the barge making sure that the sand is probably discharged for specific use. True enough we spotted traces of sand as it moved closer. He shared that the barge was most likely transporting sand to Singapore...oh; not another issue of contention again, I hope.

Then he told me that there was a tug boat in front of the barge. It was probably helping the vessel to move against the current and to make sure that the barge is carefully manoeuvred when going under the bridge. There was another smaller tug boat pushing from the opposite end; both are efforts to push and lead the barge. Don't papas and mamas also do the same thing? We hope and pray that our children would not go astray with wrong decisions and take all possible precautions to align them to the right path. We work against currents at times but we are not afraid of hard and tedious effort so long as the end is achieved. But at the same time we have to allow them to make mistakes and give them room to grow when mistakes are made. We can only pray the mistakes committed are redeemable ones; a result of tireless guidance. Somehow, good teaching will not be in vain; right decisions will still prevail and our children will still turn out fine.

Look at the concerted effort of the tug boats...finally but surely the barge successfully made its way under the bridge and 'bingo' all the way south to its destination. We also want 'bingo' moments for our children.

Strolling along the easy town, pa says the owner of this little corner unit is clever to create a niche...little cafe. Come drink coffee and be happy.

"Siow, siow" ... meaning the little one is captivating in its ethos. The next time in my retirement days I may just visit the place with my friends. Strange, I really have not 'yum-cha' with anyone before. No, I am not an anti-social; I need to be more sociable only.

Retirement in Muar? Let me think about it.
